Second Annual Summer Hiatus

Well, folks, I toyed with the idea of just plowing straight through, but no, I need to get some real screenwriting done, finish the book, and maybe even some other projects, such as a play...

So here we are again.  I’m very glad that I came back from my last summer hiatus, as it’s been a great year, but it’s time to take some more time off.

I fully intend to have the manuscript of the book finished before I return.  The questions then become: do I self-publish or not, and, either way, do I go the route of e-book or print book?  Obviously, if I self-publish an e-book, you’ll see the results much soon, but the other options will take longer to varying degrees.

Once again, I intend to return next September.  Let’s hope everything goes according to plan…

Bummer. :(

Hope your summer is productive!

Guess I'll be going through the archives for the next couple of months...

I'm sure you made the right decision; time is one of the most precious things we have. Secretly I hope you self-publish so I won't have to wait 5 years to read what you wrote.

There's enough amazing back stock on this site to keep me busy until September. Good luck!

I'm a big fan of print books; while I'd like to have your book quickly, I'd trade time for a hard copy.

I love the blog; I'm glad you've decided to write a book! Enjoy the summer.

It's less a question of either/or than both/and. I'd say ebook definitely with the option for print too (either now or in the future).

I don't know if you've given any further thought to promoting your work within the larger screenwriting community, but if I were you I'd seriously consider reaching not just to your other readers and colleagues, but to people at The Writer's Store in Burbank and to your contacts at Script Shadow. Even if you choose to self-publish, one good blog post or newsletter blurb from them could vastly increase the size of your initial readership.

Good luck with everything, Matt. See you back here in September.

Kickstarter the book! Self publish ebook versions and physical versions, sell preorders on the Kickstarter and start building a mailing list. After the Kickstarter ends release them for sale on your website. I have some experience with projects like this, feel free to reach out if you want any thoughts or advice on how you might pull it off successfully.

Does anyone else find unsettling how many of these comments are from people whose name begins with J?
