There is a wonderful recent Blu-Ray transfer of this Powell & Pressburger masterpiece, well worth seeking out if only for the wonderful Technicolor photography of Jack Cardiff which is revealed so well, but of course there are a myriad other reasons, not least Kathleen Byron as Sister Ruth. I believe the author of the novel Rumer Godden (The River, the Greengage Summer etc)was unhappy with the film however.

You're right, Ian, it's a shame to watch such a beautiful movie through the muddy "Watch Instantly" filter. What can I say? I'm addicted to the ease!
